Materials

Shaw Inspection Systems provide a wide range of custom and standard products for the Non Destructive Testing and Examination (NDT&E) of a diverse array of materials.

Digital Radiography (DR), typically using Linear Detector Arrays (LDAs) is often used to provide quality control for the inspection of raw materials into production process, varying from the inspection of timber (for stones and nails) prior to cutting into planks to the inspection of aluminium and magnesium bar (for inclusions such as Tungsten) prior to the casting of aerospace componets.

Real Time Radiography (RTR) is also used for the manual inspection of larger sheet materials and composites

Computed Tomography (CT) is principally used for the inspection of new materials such as ceramics and metal foams, but is also used for the inspection of composites such as glass and carbon fibre.

Applications include:
  • Raw materials, timber, powders, aggregates, etc.
  • Material inspection during production, metal, plastics, timber products, paper and card.
  • Feedstock materials such as metal and plastic, billet, bar, rod and sheet.
  • Material Bonding & Adhesives, Liquid Polymers, Glues
  • Composite Materials, Glass Fibre, Carbon Fibre, Mixed Materials (Metal / Plastic)
  • Advanced Materials & Structures, Ceramics, Honeycomb, Foams, Powders.
