Introduction

Welcome to Shaw Inspection Systems Image Library. This library was first launched in August 2007, just two after the creation of this website. To mark the launch the first images added to the library were a complete set of digital Radiographs (DR) of all the surviving fragments of the Antikythera Mechanism. Subsequently the this Library has grown substantially, to illustrate the range of Shaw's imaging capabilities.

This image library contains examples at the extreme ends of digital x-ray radiography from low energy (15keV) to high energy (8MeV), from small objects such as electronics components to the large objects such as nuclear waste drums, and for applications as diverse as the natural sciences to aerospace. Digital x-ray radiography and computed tomography can reveal the internal structure of objects as diverse as a seashell to a turbine blade from a jet engine.

For more information about any images in this library, please send us an email at: sales@sis.shawcor.com

Latest Addition

The Pullen Collection, consists of a number of radiographs of historical importance, marking the first radiography of operational gas turbines.

These film radiographs have been digitised using a Kodak LS85 Film Digitiser at 254dpi (0.1mm per pixel) to provide 12-bit images. For the purposes of this website, the 12-bit images have been contrast stretched, before conversion to 24-bit colour (8-bit grey scale).

All the radiographs, with the exception of the two cold neutron radiographs are 14" x 17", which have a digitised size of approximately 3500 x 4200 pixels. The cold neutron radiographs are smaller (12" x 15.5") and have a digitised size of 3000 x 3900 pixels. All the radiographs are copies of the originals, which were exposed over 30 years ago.
